Ika Rere is the Southern Hemisphere’s first fully electric, high-speed passenger ferry, operating in Wellington Harbour for East by West Ferries. The operational range of the vessel is dependent upon sea conditions, battery age, and the speed of travel. A return trip at 20 knots between Queens Wharf and Days Bay with the maximum passenger load consumes 310kWh, and the two 325kW motors would deplete the batteries to their safe operating level point in 42 minutes. On the Te Aro Pā – Hidden Māori Treasures Cultural Walking Tour, you will discover intriguing secrets about the city we love. View the archaeological remains of a whareponga (house) at the Pā site, hear the story of the people who lived at the Pā and their journey to Wellington, gain exclusive access to a non- public excavation site. Discover Wellington’s hidden Māori treasures. For more information click here.
