Call for Abstracts

The Australian Centre for Health Law Research invites you to participate in the 5th International Conference on Assisted Dying and Other End-of-Life Care (ICEL5). The conference will be held in Brisbane, Australia from Wednesday 8th April to Saturday 11th April 2026 and will be an engaging program of interdisciplinary research.

The call to submit abstracts for oral, poster, workshop, and panel presentations for the 2026 international conference is now open.

ICEL5 is an interdisciplinary conference and we welcome abstracts that highlight legal, ethical, clinical, health policy, sociological, and other aspects of assisted dying internationally and within specific jurisdictions. We use ‘assisted dying’ as an umbrella term and recognise that countries use different terminology such as voluntary assisted dying, medical assistance in dying, assisted suicide and euthanasia.

We welcome abstracts that situate assisted dying in its broader end-of-life and health-care contexts, including research which sits at the intersection between assisted dying and other relevant issues, such as advance care planning, other forms of hastened death, and organ donation.

This program will be of interest to all interested in assisted dying including:

• researchers from a range of disciplines

• health care professionals

• philosophers and bioethicists

• legal practitioners and academics

• policymakers and regulators

• and many more.

The call for abstracts closes on Sunday 31 August 2025.
